Barcelona Cathedrals and Art
Barcelona in the heart of Catalan country is a fabulous city that boasts wide boulevards, lots of fabulous food, wine and of course, Cathedrals. It is really easy to get around the city via the Metro system and a bit of walking. As with all the Mediterranean countries, the city has a siesta time then comes alive until late at night. The place has a friendly family feel, with lots of people frequenting bars for Tapas and a wine or beer. We have noticed that everyone drinks in the evening but there is no drunkenness – a lesson for New Zealand here.
Of course the main attraction in Barcelona (apart from the Bernabeu Stadium) is the Sagrada Familia Cathedral. This still being completed Cathedral is absolutely amazing with it’s spires and numerous freezes and facades. Antoni Gaudi made this unique building a masterpiece which started in 1883 – when will it end? Imagine seeing it without the ever present cranes and scaffolding….
Barcelonian’s love their football, every other shop sold merch and every advert seems to reference the team and/or stadium! A passionate people always keen to help us or give an opinion even when language is a barrier.
We have been fortunate that as we move around Spain we seem to have followed fiesta after fiesta. While we were in Montcada, the village Montcala i Reixac had its own fiesta which was a very local but fun event with what seemed like the entire village taking part!
Please enjoy the pictures of the amazing architecture, fiestas and cathedrals of this fabulous city.
