Bahrain Race Day
Our very first Formula 1 Grand Prix Race
What a race! This was our very first race and it was over before we knew it. 57 laps literally went by in an incredibly fast flash! Another very hot day in the desert and full capacity crowds. No running water in the ladies loo was a bit of a bummer but the rest was awesome. The King and other dignitaries did a drive-by, crowds cheered, then the drivers all piled onto the back of a flat bed lorry and drove round the track – we went wild but they actually looked a little bored! Then Gulf Air did a low fly over with a very big airplane (?Airbus) which was roaringly loud followed by the National Anthem. All this before the good stuff even began….
Max (as expected) flew off and maintained his pole position and stayed there all race. He won by a country mile and no-one no one could come close, but by turn 1 Charles had already taken Checo. Things just got better and better from then, lots of excellent driving, overtaking, near misses, lock ups and screaming fans (engines too!). Everyone gutted as Charles’ Ferrari had to retire in lap 41 after he’d held 3rd place, but so exciting to see Aston Martin come into their own and give Mercedes a run for their money. McLaren didn’t get a look in and Alpine were disappointing. Brilliant race by the Red Bulls and Aston Martin followed by an incredible firework display.
Back at the hotel and we’re still buzzing. What an amazing experience, the sounds, the smells, the noise…we feel grateful to have been a part of it all.
How the day started ….
Loving this. Can almost smell the cars! Thank you both. Loving your change of shirt too David. Rumour here has it that Mercedes are ditching their concept and starting afresh. What’s the word on the ground? Go Lewis and George. And go go go Team Toto. Bring it in Jeddah!
word on the ground is ASTON MARTIN!!!!
If Granddad Bill could only see AM now😏
indeed!
Hi Jen,
The “word” as far as we know is that Mercedes will probably NOT change their concept just yet. Having said that would they say they would if they were going to? Not sure on that. They have a lot of work to do. Maybe they should break salary cap (on gardening of course) like Red Bull!!
Aaah! Thank you. On an entirely different topic: what’s the most delicious food you’ve eaten in Bahrain ?
Hi Jen,
Looks like you were right!! I looked at some of the UK newspapers and they are all reporting that Toto is going to dump the current concept! Shame because the season will be a right off because they will be testing all the time!
Love the comments on white wearing in the heat – I’ll have to invest! What a great race to start the season off! How exciting! So happy for Alonso
bonus – you look good in white haha!
Loving the updates! What an excellent adventure. That phone was an excellent investment 🙂
I’m still learning all the fabulous features it has to offer – nothing like learning as you go!!
Looks like you are having a roaring good time! Loving the updates. Can’t wait to check out what’s coming next…
Hey Mel, Jeddah is next but before then lots of very cool places to see in Bahrain! Loving it here!
Wow! You should take up journalism guys. Really great write up with some useful tips too 🤪
Looked a great race and whole experience wrapped up in one. Don’t expect anything more than a can of lager and a pork pie at Silverstone! Have a great and safe trip to the next one xxx
Thanks Simon….you got Dave at the mention of Pork Pie 😉
In response to Michelle it was the lager too! Cannot wait for the next one!
