Al Rahmah mosque – looks like it is floating on the sea as it is built on stilts
The sea is crystal clear and shallow, but no one swims or goes in the water.
This imposing golden brass falcon, around 4 metres tall sits in the shallow water close to the mosque. It’s pretty impressive and can be seen for miles! It is part of the Jeddah art promenade.
Just another set of impressive gates to someone’s home – I was really taken with these very grand exteriors to houses. All different from one another but each of them so intricately decorated and very grand. It made me long to go in and see what was behind the closed gates all around the city!
Art pieces every few meters along the beach promenade
We weren’t sure if this was just for Ramadan, but so many shops dedicated just to incredible sweets – looked very Parisian!
Boating popular as Jeddah sits on the Red Sea, even late at night after midnight, there was plenty of activity.
Hello!!!
Local supermarket the baker was churning out what looked like Pikelettes!?
They were literally flying out the door in hot demand!
King Fahd’s Fountain, taller than the Eiffel Tower
The fountain can be seen from all over the city, it is very impressive and lit up beautifully at night. As it is sea water every year the pumps have to be dried out and painted with special paint to prevent growth of marine life.
Reaching 630 feet it is truly magnificent. We took this photo around midnight with an amazing cloud accross the sky.
Mosque’s and minarets at every street corner. These are just typical suburban street scenes.
Had to add these pics in, such an impressive air display at Saudi GP for half an hour each race day.
This is the closest I’ll ever get to Max Verstappen haha 😉
Stumming sun sets each night viewed from the grandstand at the race.
Statues outside every building – some cool architecture too!
Coming from shaky Christchurch this building terrified us just by looking at it!!
Worth checking out – us at the after race concert, local hero Ahmed Saad! We also saw Charlie Puth who looked like a hobbit!!

That white sculpture by the sea looks almost like the ‘Star of David’

Yes it does, due to religious restrictions there are not allowed to be any statues or sculptures of the human form resulting in some very abstract but cool art works.
